Alberto Vargas (1896-1982)
The most prolific illustrator glamorous and famous of all time is Alberto Vargas. The son of Max Vargas, a famous and talented photographer in his own right, Alberto learned how to airbrush his father before he was a teenager. Most do not realize that was actually born in Peru and not come to the U.S. until 1916. He arrived at Ellis Island across Europe, where he had been since 1911. While there, he had studied in Geneva and Zurich, and so far had made his way here he was a gifted talent in bloom. In the three years he had hung his own shingle and was painting storefronts and shop windows of the merchants of the city of New York.

One hot afternoon in May 1916, while painting a showcase for a merchant of the city, was approached by an employee of the Ziegfeld Follies and asked to show their work the same great Ziegfeld. Within forty-eight hours, was commissioned to paint 12 portraits of the main stars of the 1919 season of the Ziegfeld Follies. They went to the lobby New Amsterdam Theatre.

That for the first time in committee, Alberto Vargas was an artist in high demand.

He painted all the main stars of the Ziegfeld Follies and then the major Hollywood stars like Betty Grable, Jane Esquire magazine and in 1945 was the most famous illustrator of the glam world.

He was married to more than forty years to the love of her life, Anna Mae Clift. When she died in 1974, lost most of his creative drive and worked only a couple of times by The Cars "Candy O" album cover album and two covers for Bernadette Peters. He died in Los Angeles in December 1982.
